Description

Old Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 16th to early 17th century. It is constructed from banded sarsen and flint, topped with a thatched roof. The building is single storey with an attic, featuring three bays and a rear wing on the left made of sarsen, which has been raised to create an attic in brick. The entrance is located at the junction of the rear wing, with an additional entrance in the right gable accessed through a 20th-century brick porch. The cottage has timber paned windows, two dormers on the front, and one on the rear. There is a stack positioned between the second and third bays, along with an added stack on the left gable. The thatched roof is half-hipped. Inside, the central bay has chamfered ceiling beams and windbraces, and contains a large stack with a fine moulded mantel beam facing the narrow right bay. This room also features chamfered joists and has been subdivided.
