Farm Buildings At Biddesden Farm

The farm buildings at Biddesden Farm consist of a barn and an outbuilding located southeast of the farmhouse. They date from the 17th century or early 18th century and feature a timber frame with weatherboarding on brick sills, topped by an asbestos sheet roof. The barn has seven bays and is aisled on the east side, with a return at the south end. Slatted vents are present on the west face, and the eaves are raised over bays six and seven to allow for an entrance. Inside, the barn has tie-beam trusses supported by jowled posts, queen struts to the collar, and a single tier of purlins, with corner braces on the posts. At the north end, there is a brick outbuilding with a hipped roof, and the wall where it meets the barn is timber framed with brick noggings. The interior of the outbuilding features an upper floor, likely used as a granary. Some of the barn's walling has been replaced with 20th-century blockwork.
