Description
Biddesden Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It is constructed of flint and chalk faced in diaper brick, with a tiled roof. The building has two storeys, a cellar, and attics, and is arranged in three bays with the entrance located laterally to the central room. There is a service wing to the right and an outshut to the rear, which have been incorporated into later alterations. The main house features a moulded brick plinth and an elaborate mid-wall string. The entrance includes a six-panelled door set in a 20th-century part-propped porch. The windows are tripartite 16-paned sashes with elaborately moulded gauged brick lintels, moulded key bricks, and shaped soffits, with a sixteen-pane sash window located above the door. The eaves are boxed, and there are three hipped dormers and gable stacks. The outshut at the rear continues under the roof, but the rear pitch has been raised to accommodate a two-storey rear extension on the right. There is a copper fire mark from the early Phoenix Company, although the number is not readable. To the right of the farmhouse, there is a single-storey service wing made of flint and brick, which is now used as an office.
