Description

South Mill is a mill house built around 1770. It features a combination of flint and chalk chequerwork, with the front rendered and a tiled roof. The building is two storeys high and has three bays across the front and two bays deep. There is a plat band, and the entrance is now located in the mill section. The windows are timber paned casements, with one 9-paned sash window at the rear. The eaves are cogged, and the roof is hipped with external gable stacks, one of which on the north end is partly demolished.

At the rear, there is a mill building from the early 19th century, constructed of dispersed brick and stone with a slate roof. This structure was raised from two to three storeys and has three bays, along with a 20th-century full-height extension on the western end that replaced the leet. The mill has 20th-century windows and a culvert for the millstream running underneath, featuring a segmental arch. The building has undergone significant alterations due to the recent window changes and is included in the listing for its group value only.
