Description

Old Viney's Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a dwelling and shop, dating from the mid-16th century. It is constructed of brick and flint with stone quoins and has a rendered front. The roof is tiled. The building has two storeys and three bays, with a two-bay cross wing at the southeast end. The entrance to the main living room is located in the southernmost of the three main bays, featuring a boarded door set in a stone surround with a reserved chamfered pointed arch that is cut back to a simple chamfer. The ground floor windows are three-light stone mullioned windows with recessed reserved chamfers, while the first floor has 16-paned and 12-paned single hung sash windows. The cross wing consists of two bays and has been opened up on the ground floor, featuring similar 16-paned sash windows. There are single-storey brick and tiled additions at both ends of the building. External stacks are present on the rear wall and the left end wall of the wing, made of brick with two diagonally set brick shafts. Inside, the main living hall contains a stone fireplace on the rear wall with a four-centred chamfered arch and chamfered spine beams. The right end bay, originally a service room, has an open gable fireplace with a timber lintel.
