Description
Linnea Cottage is a pair of cottages located on Ludgershall Road in Collingbourne Ducis. The first cottage dates from the 17th century, while the second, No 21, is an addition from the 18th century or early 19th century. The cottages are timber framed with whitewashed brick noggings and feature a thatched roof. They are single storey with attics, raised to two storeys, and have a layout of bays measuring 1/2 : 3 : 1/2 : 1. The framing consists of two panels high with heavy straight corner braces, set on a high brick sill, and the upper floor is formed by lighter timberwork raised by two panels. The cottages have a lobby entry plan with the entrance located in the second bay opposite the stack, sheltered by a thatched canopy. The left half bay includes a brick laced flint addition, likely originally part of No 21. The first bay is gabled with light framing and features a boarded door. The windows are 20th-century timber and metal. No 21, which occupies the left added bay, has a brick laced flint exterior and a continuation of the thatched roof. It has a boarded door and timber windows on the ground floor, with small paned leaded lights on the first floor, along with a gable stack. The interior has not been seen but may hold interest.
