Description
The Blue Lion Inn is an inn dating from the early to mid-18th century. It is constructed of vitrified brick with red brick dressings around the openings and corners, and features brick laced flint on the sides. The roof is slate-covered. The building has five bays and includes a lean-to at the rear, which was extended upwards in the early 19th century. There are also 18th-century stables that have been joined as a rear wing on the left side. The central entrance features a six-panelled door, with the upper panels being glazed. The windows are twelve-paned sashes with gauged brick lintels, and there is a plat band and coved timber eaves. The roof is hipped and includes two hipped dormers, with stacks located on the end walls. Inside, the original partitions for the through passage have been removed, but the left parlour retains some oak bolection moulded panelling and raised pilasters, along with a 20th-century fireplace.
