Description

No. 36 St Margaret's Street is a building from the second half of the 19th century, featuring two storeys plus an attic and basement. The structure is made of ashlar and has an asymmetrical front that is divided by a projecting central bay, with a section to the right that is set back. It has a cornice and parapet topped with a triangular pediment over the central bay. The corners are accentuated with banded rustication quoins, and there is a string course between the first and second floors. The roof is hipped and covered with pantiles, and there are four dormers, each with triangular pediments and finials.

The building has five windows arranged in a 2-1-2 pattern, with a triple bay window in the centre. The windows feature slightly projecting surrounds, keystones above, and recessed aprons below. To the right of the projecting bay, there is a round-headed doorway with a plain surround and impost capitals. The door itself is a four-panel wooden door topped with a semi-circular fanlight.

No. 36 is part of a group that includes the Three Horseshoes and Nos 1 to 4 Frome Road, along with the Liberal Club, the Baptist Chapel, the Congregational Church and Hall, and Nos 6 to 16, 19 to 22, 36, and 42 to 49, as well as Westbury House on St Margaret's Street and No. 1 St Margaret's Hill.
