Description
Dolphin House, at 19 and 20 St Margaret's Street, is a large house dating from the late 18th or early 19th century. The exterior is ashlar, with part of number 19 rendered. It has a pantiled roof with gable-end parapets and kneelers, and two dormers, one original. There are four windows and two doorways, each with painted or raised surrounds. The windows are sash windows with thin glazing bars. The door to number 20 is accessed by three steps, and it is a six-panel door with a rectangular fanlight above. A 19th-century shop window is located to the right, featuring a fascia and entablature supported by plain pilasters. The window glazing is divided by colonnettes with foliated capitals. The building forms a group with The Three Horseshoes, numbers 1 to 4 Frome Road, the Liberal Club, The Baptist Chapel, the Congregational Church and Hall, numbers 6 to 16, 19 to 22, 36, 42 to 49, and Westbury House on St Margaret’s Street, along with number 1 St Margaret’s Hill.
