GV II

Pair of Bowood estate cottages, early C19, squared ironstone rubble with thatched roof and brick ridge stack of 4 short diagonal shafts. Picturesque cottage style. Each cottage is 2-storey, 2- window range with two 2-light mullion windows to first floor, door in stone surround and 1-3-1-light canted stone bay to ground floor, door to right on No 14 and to left on No 15. Small-paned iron casements. End walls have ground floor 2-light with hoodmould. A house is marked on this site on J. Powell 1763 map, but the present range appears later in style. The thatched cottages of Sandy Lane are an outstanding example of an estate village in the picturesque manner.
