Description

The Hiscock monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, approximately 19 meters southeast of the chancel of the Church of St Matthew. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of ashlar stone. The tomb features two plaques on each side, which are separated by paired husk drops. It has fluted angle piers that include a central rosette and incised squares at both the head and foot. The monument is finished with a moulded base and cornice, and a fluted frieze that is slightly projected over the plaques. The inscription commemorates John Hiscock.
