Description

No. 37 Market Place is an ornate bank building dated 1873, standing three storeys tall with a four-window front made of ashlar. The ground floor features vermiculated stonework and is divided into four sections by vermiculated piers between the windows and the entrance. The windows have Caernarvon-type arch heads, while the entrance is topped with a stilted segmental arch.

The first floor is framed by horizontal grooved pilasters with floral caps, and it has a modillion cornice that supports banded colonnettes of the window aedicules. A moulded cornice serves as a cill band for the second floor, where the windows are set above an impost string and have raised segmental heads. The building is topped with a rich dentil cornice that includes occasional corbels and features a balustraded parapet. In the center of the parapet, there is a segmental panel displaying the date 1873, surrounded by husk foliage.

The upper return elevations are treated similarly, with rich panelled gable end chimneys adorned with carved foliage bands. The roof is a square hipped slate design.
