Description
Numbers 22 and 24, along with Numbers 16 and 18 and the malthouse at the rear, date from the mid to late 18th century. Number 22 is three storeys high, while Number 24 is two storeys. The front is painted ashlar, now featuring a continuous shop front on the ground floor with a large fascia. Number 22 likely has a late 19th-century design with slender colonnettes separating the plate glass windows. Both buildings have glazing bar sash windows with keystones. Number 22 has two ranges with a band over the first floor and a centre blind. It has a hipped old tile roof, while Number 24 has a hipped return and a slate roof. There are two brick chimneys. Numbers 16 and 18 are located at the rear of Numbers 24 and 22, respectively, forming two and three-storey extensions accessed from an alleyway that begins between Numbers 14 and 20. The site includes various maltster's workshops, including a small-scale malthouse made of coursed squared rubble, which extends beyond Number 18 and has a staggered frontage to the alleyway.
