Description

This is a row of four cottages, numbered 6 to 10, on Nursteed Road, also known as The Island. The cottages were originally built in the 17th century and subsequently refaced during the 18th and 19th centuries. They are two storeys high, with a ground floor of painted brick and a rendered first floor that slightly overhangs. The ends of the boxed beams are exposed and covered. Each cottage has one window on each floor; the first floor windows are two-light casements, and the ground floor windows are a three-light design, all set within flush moulded frames. The roof is clad in pantiles and has a wooden eaves band. The doors are of four flush panels, each sheltered by a small, pedimented hood supported by cut brackets. The doors of cottages numbered 7 and 8 are positioned side by side. The row of cottages, numbered 3 to 10, is considered an important group when viewed across Devizes Green.
