Front Gates, Overthrow, Railings And 18 Metres Of Attached Walling To Left Of Netherhampton House

The front gates, overthrow, railings, and 18 metres of attached walling to the left of Netherhampton House date from around 1720. They feature cast iron central gates and railings set on brick dwarf walls with stone weathered coping. The return walls and the wall to the left are constructed of English bond brick, also topped with weathered stone coping. Attached to the sides of the railings are finely gauged brick piers in English bond on stone plinths, each topped with a corniced stone cap and finely carved stone urn finials. The gates have segmental-arched tops and are adorned with a wrought iron overthrow featuring the central quartered arms of the Gauntlett and Fry family, also made of wrought iron. This structure is likely the work of Gauntlet Fry, who died in 1746, and is contemporary with the front facade of Netherhampton House, creating an imposing entrance.
