Description
The Victoria and Albert Public House is a late 17th-century cottage that has been converted into a public house. It features a rendered flint rubble exterior and a thatched roof with brick chimney stacks. Originally a two-room cottage, a 18th-century bay was added to the west. The building stands two storeys high and has two windows on the front facade. The central entrance consists of a six-panelled door leading into the 17th-century part of the building, which is sheltered by a thatched porch from the 19th century. To the right of the door is a two-light casement window with a stone lintel and keystone, while to the left are two additional two-light casements. On the first floor, there are two more two-light casements. The right side of the building has a 20th-century casement window on the ground floor, and there is a 19th-century lean-to extension at the rear. Inside, the pub features deep chamfered ceiling beams with ogee stops, a blocked open fireplace with a timber lintel, and a planked door leading to a narrow winding staircase next to the fireplace. The east bar area includes a bolection-moulded doorcase, and the roof has a three-bay structure with collars and clasped purlins in the top tier.
