Description

The park walls to the south and west of Wilton Park, built in the mid-18th century, were commissioned by the 9th Earl of Pembroke. Designed in a style reminiscent of Roman architecture, they are constructed from large rubble blocks with wide brick bands and feature weathered stone capping, which is now covered in moss. These walls enclose Wilton Park and include various gates to the south. One of the gates features a weathered arch adorned with three ogee-capped acroteria, located to the east of Home Farm. Additionally, in the wall to the west of this gate, there are two dated bricks marked "W H 1799" and "J E 1729 (or 1724)".
