Description
The Chantry is a building from the mid to late 17th century that has been altered over time. It stands two storeys high with an attic and is constructed of brick featuring a pattern of blue headers. The building has a stone plinth cap, a first-floor string course, quoins, and brick dentil eaves, topped with an old tile roof.
The front of the building has five bays, with two-light leaded stone mullioned windows. There is a six-panelled door located between the two left-hand bays, flanked by two small windows. The door is set within a stone doorcase that includes an architrave, frieze, cornice, and pediment. To the left, there is a one-bay extension that features three-light mullion windows and a two-storey ashlar bay that likely dates from the mid-19th century.
On the north gable, there is an oriel window, while the north-west corner has a Tudor-style wing from the 1920s, which has a jettied first floor on the western part. Inside, the building features an oak staircase. The front north room includes a wide fireplace with a carved frieze, and the front south room, which has an added bay window, contains an Adam-style fireplace with stucco decoration.
