Description
31 South Street is a 17th-century building situated on older foundations, likely once serving as a toll house for the nearby bridge. The original thatched roof has been replaced with a modern tiled roof featuring flat eaves and two gabled dormers. A brick chimney is located on the gable end to the west. The building is 1½ storeys high, with the road gable constructed of rubble and some flint work, and it has one window on each floor, including a glazing bar sash on the ground floor. The south front shows part timber framing with brick infill; the ground floor on the left is made of stone with some flint, while the right side is entirely brick. There is a three-light casement window on the left, a plain central door, and later casement windows on the right.
