Description

Sawmills Bridge and Weir is an early 19th-century structure, likely part of improvements made around the 1820s under the direction of Westmacott and Wyattville. It does not reflect the refined design proposed by Chambers in the 1750s, which included a balustraded parapet. The bridge features five low segmental arches that decrease in height, constructed from ashlar stone. There is a slightly ramped impost band and angled returns to the east. To the west, there is a high parapet. The passage across the bridge is divided by a 6-foot brick and stone screen wall.
