Description

Milestone located in front of East Black Dog Lodge, dating from the late 18th century. It is made of limestone and features a semi-circular headed top with a shaped cast-iron plate attached to the front. The plate has raised lettering indicating the distances to Wincanton (6 miles) and Hindon (8 miles). This road was turnpiked between 1754 and 1756.
