Description

A barn group, dating from the early 18th to early 19th century, is located at Manor Farm. The barns are constructed of rubble stone, with the north barn having a timber frame clad in weatherboarding, all under half-hipped tiled roofs. The group forms an L-shape. The north barn, which runs east-west, has two half-hipped porches with 20th-century concrete block jambs on its north side and a gabled porch with double planked doors on its south side. It features a 7-bay queen-post roof with straight bracing between the main posts and tie-beam, likely dating to the early 19th century. Two further rubble stone barns are attached to the south, running north-south, with the northernmost barn probably being the earlier of the two. The north barn has a gabled porch on the west side and a porch with a raking roof and slit vents to the sides and north gable. It includes a west-side aisle with a catslide roof and a rubble stone internal partition separating the aisle from the main part. Its roofs are supported by collar and tie-beam trusses with tension bracing between jowled main posts and tie-beam. The barn attached to the south has opposing hipped porches with double planked doors, a 7-bay roof with collar and tie-beam trusses, and represents a building of the 18th century.
