Description

This is an 18th-century milestone located opposite Highgate Farm on the Malmesbury Road (B 4042) in Wootton Bassett. It is made of limestone, although the head is damaged and roughly grooved. The shaft has a half oval section. The inscriptions, which are barely legible, indicate the distances to Malmesbury and Swindon, both marked as 8 miles.
