Description
The United Reformed Chapel is a Congregational chapel built in 1825. It features ashlar limestone construction and a stone slate roof. The building has a gable end facing the street and a front gabled porch. It consists of a single cell with an apse, along with rear additions that include a lobby with a vestry, a 3-bay schoolroom, and a 2-bay meeting room, both positioned at right angles to the chapel. The elevation is symmetrical, showcasing a plain low-pitched gable that contains an oval date plaque and the chapel's name. There are two tiers of 12-pane sash windows, with the first-floor sills extending as a string course. The entrance is arched and includes a fanlight in the forebuilding, with a recessed ball in the gable. The rendered apse has round-headed windows and a central circular light. Inside, there is a west gallery and panelled pilasters framing the apse arch. Notable interior features include dais chairs and a communion table from the Victoria Congregational Church in Swindon. The rear buildings, constructed in 1862, are made of brick with slated roofs and have round-headed windows and scissor trusses internally. A late 20th-century kitchen extension has been added.
