Description

No. 29 High Street is a bank built in 1872 and earlier. It is constructed of ashlar oolite with a slate roof and gable stacks. The building is two stories high and has three bays, with quoined corners. The center bay is narrower and recessed, featuring a Tuscan portico with a plain entablature. The windows are three-light with square mullions, sashes, and panelled aprons. There is a cornice and a panelled parapet, which is raised over the center. The interior has been significantly altered for use as a banking hall. Originally, this building housed the Wilts and Dorset Bank, which started around 1835, and it is located on the site of a house owned by Sir Winston Churchill in 1648.
