Description
Lane End Cottage is a 17th-century cottage located on the north-west side of Idmiston High Street in Porton. It features a timber frame and colourwashed cob with a thatched roof. The cottage is single storey with an attic and consists of two bays, extended by a third bay that likely encloses the original entrance beside the gable stack. The rear wall has framing that is two panels high with straight corner braces. There is a boarded door with a glazed panel leading to the extension, and 20th-century timber windows with black painted surrounds. An attached glazed outbuilding is located at the right end of the cottage. Inside, there is a stair in the shorter inner bay, and the main living room has a chamfered spine beam with ogee stops. The floors are pegged into the original structure, and the roof features clasped purlins with windbraces present only in the south bay.
