Description

The stable and carriage house to Clyffe Hall, now known as Mews Flat and Old Laundry, dates from the 18th century. It is constructed of red and blue vitrified brick, arranged in vertical bands, and sits on a greensand sill. The building features a slate roof and is a single storey with an attic.

The central carriageway is flanked by three bays on each side, forming the eastern arm of a courtyard, and it returns as a 19th-century brick structure that contains a third flat on the north side. The carriage arch is made of brick and includes key and springer stones. Above the plat band, there is an attic storey.

On the left side, there are three bays featuring a central panelled door with a segmental overlight and 16-paned sash windows with gauged lintels. There is a raking dormer in the attic. On the right side of the arch, there are similar features but altered in the 20th century, along with a rear extension. Inside the archway, there is a wooden hand pump and a lead trough.

The north return consists of four bays with carriage houses that are now used as garages, and it includes two flush dormers. The windows are leaded and set in iron casements.
