Description
The stable and carriage house at Conholt Park dates from the early to mid-18th century and was extended in the late 18th century. It is constructed of brick with tiled roofs and forms three sides of a yard. The central block, which faces the main house, has four bays built in vitrified header bond. The two central bays are slightly projected forward and feature a pediment, with brick strings that act as cornices. A clock is situated in the pediment, and there is a bell tower supported by six columns, topped with a domed lead roof and a wind vane.
The building includes two large carriage arches with timber doors, and the outer bays also have similar large arches and a parapet. The block is flanked by groom's and stable boy's dwellings, each consisting of two bays with six-panelled doors and leaded three-light windows. The courtyard is enclosed by stable wings; the left wing is made of flint with brick dressings and a tiled roof, featuring varied openings that include four doors and timber windows with leaded glazing. The right wing has a five-bay blank shallow arcade. Two carriage house doors are now covered by a later 19th-century steel glazed roof on columns. The stable doors and leaded windows are present, and a passage at the junction with the main block leads to a farm at the rear.
