Description

Beech Tree Cottage, which was formerly a stable block and carriage house, dates from the 18th century to the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with limestone ashlar dressings and features slate and pantile roofs with ashlar coped gables that have kneelers. The building has tumbled gables and is a single-storey structure that is integrated into the return walls of the north range. The stable block is located to the north, with the carriage house added at right angles to the south, creating a central courtyard that is enclosed to the west and south.

The stable block is two storeys high and has four bays. It features an off-centre semi-circular headed doorway with an ashlar hood mould and plank doors. To the left, there are two circular windows, and to the right, there is a single circular window, all of which have radiating spokes and ashlar semi-circular hood moulds. Above, there are four similar windows, two of which are now blocked. The carriage house has two plain sash windows on the east side and a large doorway on the south with double plank doors and a wooden lintel. There is also a doorway in a ramped wall to the left, which has a segmental head and a plank door.
