Description

Conholt Park is a house located in parkland, dating from the late 17th century, 18th century, and early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick, with extensions in buff-grey brick and stone dressings around the openings, topped with a green slate roof. The building has two storeys, attics, and cellars. The original late 17th-century structure was likely four bays wide but has been partly demolished at the northeast end. A large south wing, which forms the new front of the house, was added in 1810-1811 and consists of seven bays. This wing was further extended in the late 19th century with a projecting and canted bay on the right, as well as a billiard room with a canted bay at the rear. The original block and the new front are at an angle to each other, with the entrance located at the junction, featuring a semicircular Tuscan portico supported by four columns and an entablature, leading to glazed doors.

The south front has 15-pane sash windows on the ground floor and 12-pane sash windows on the upper floor, all adorned with moulded architraves, a pulvinated frieze, and a cornice. The facade is finished with a cornice that has paired modillion eaves and a parapet. Inside, there are two elegant early 19th-century drawing and sitting rooms in the southwest corner. A wide corridor from the entrance leads to an oval central stair hall at the rear, which features a fine flying stair with a metal balustrade. The earlier wing contains a mid-18th-century close-balustered dog-leg stair. Externally, in the north re-entrant angle, there is a disused horse gin made by Tasker & Sons of Andover.
