Description

Cadley Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, with extensions from the 19th century and some later alterations. It is constructed of knapped flint with brick dressings and features a plain tile roof with gabled ends, along with brick axial and gable-end stacks.

The original layout consisted of a three-room arrangement with a lobby entrance in front of the axial stack, which included back-to-back fireplaces and an integral outshut at the back. The partition between the central room and the right-hand room has been removed. There is a 19th-century wing at the rear of the right-hand end and a small single-storey addition on the right-hand end.

The exterior is two storeys high and has a slightly asymmetrical north front with two bays on the left and three on the right. It features a brick platband at the first-floor level, a plinth, and large two-light casements with glazing bars, with brick cambered arches on the ground floor. There is a blocked doorway to the left of centre and a right-of-centre 19th-century brick gabled porch that is now blocked. The gable ends have blocked oculi. The roof at the rear extends over the integral outshut, which has a red brick rear wall, along with the wing on the left.

Inside, the farmhouse has a clasped-purlin roof with wind-braces and common-rafter couples, which display carpenter's marks.
