CHUTE FOREST SU35SW CHUTE CADLEY 1381-0/10/10001 Cadley Farmhouse II

Farmhouse. Circa early C18, extended in C19 and with some later alterations. Knapped flint with brick dressings. Plain tile roof with gabled ends. Brick axial and gable-end stacks. PLAN: The original plan was a 3-room arrangement with a lobby entrance in front of the axial stack with back-to-back fireplaces and an integral outshut at the back. The partition between the centre room and right-hand room has been removed. There is a C19 wing at the rear of the right-hand end and a small single-storey addition on the right-hand end. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Not quite symmetrical 2:3 bay north front with brick platband at fist floor level, plinth and large 2-light casements with glazing bars, the ground floor with brick cambered arches; left of centre blocked doorway; right of centre C19 brick gabled porch, now blocked. Blocked oculus in gable ends. Roof at rear carried down over integral outshut with red brick rear wall; and wing on left. INTERIOR: Clasped-purlin roof with wind-braces and common-rafter couples with carpenter's marks.
