Description
Knightley Gorse Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around the 17th century, which was remodeled and extended in the 19th century. It features a timber-framed structure that has been partly rebuilt and refaced in brick, with the north front rendered. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has gabled ends, while there is a brick axial stack.
The layout consists of a three-room plan, with a parlour and kitchen on either side of a central axial stack that has back-to-back fireplaces, and an entrance lobby at the front. There is also a small unheated room at the left (east) end. In the late 19th century, a porch was added at the front, and a long wing was constructed at the back.
The exterior is two storeys high with an attic and features an asymmetrical two-window north front, with the windows positioned to the right. The 19th-century casement windows have glazing bars, with three lights on the ground floor and two lights on the first floor, each topped with small gables. The centre of the front has a late 19th-century gabled timber-framed porch. The long red brick wing at the rear incorporates some earlier brickwork.
Inside, there are stopped chamfered axial ceiling beams and exposed joists. The partition between the left and centre rooms includes an exposed headbeam and large studs.
