Description

The Chute and Chute Forest War Memorial is a Celtic-style wheel-head cross dating from the aftermath of the First World War. It is constructed from Portland stone and set on a tapered shaft resting on a single-step base. The west face of the plinth bears a dedicatory inscription in painted Gothic script, commemorating the men of Chute and Chute Forest who died in the Great War (1914-1918). A later dedication to those who fell in the Second World War (1939-1945) is inscribed on the east face, accompanied by a list of names. The memorial is situated on a raised base enclosed by a stone post and chain link fence.
