Description
The Hughes monument is a chest tomb located about 2 meters north of the chancel of the Church of St. Mary in Calne Without, dating from around 1780. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features slab sides, baluster corners, and a moulded capstone. The sides of the tomb are adorned with delicate incised borders and low relief decoration. The north side bears an inscription commemorating John Hughes, who died in 1776, while the south side has no inscription.
