Description

The Hughes Tomb is a chest tomb located approximately 19 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St. Mary, dating from around 1827. It is constructed of ashlar and features a chamfered base and top, fluted corner pilasters, and panelled sides and ends with inclined borders. The tomb is inscribed with the words: "IN MEMORY OF ROBERT HUGHES OF NEWPORT who died Dec. 16th 1827, Aged 29 years."
