Description

Banham High Steps consists of three cottages arranged in a row, built in the 18th century. They are constructed from English bond brick with limestone quoins and footings, topped with a tiled hipped roof and featuring brick stacks. The buildings are two stories tall with an attic and have a total of six windows.

No 1 High Steps features a 16-pane sash window in what was once a shop front. High Steps has a four-panelled door with a transom light and a flat wooden hood, along with a six-pane fixed window and a 16-pane sash window. Banham has a 20th-century door with a transom light and flat wooden hood, with a 16-pane sash window to the right. The cottages have a brick dentilled eaves cornice, and the first floor is adorned with six 2-light casements. There are three hipped dormers in the roof, each with 2-light casements.

The left side of the building has a 2-light casement on the first floor and a single-storey extension to No 1 High Steps with an entrance door. There are also single-storey extensions to High Steps and Banham. The interior of High Steps includes well-crafted doors with two and four fielded panels and H-L hinges, beams with narrow chamfers, and an elliptically-arched brick open fireplace flanked by cupboard doors that have butterfly or strap hinges. Other interiors have not been inspected.
