Description
Baker's Arch is an inn that has been converted into two houses, located on Hindon High Street. The building dates back to 1682, as indicated by a stone tablet above the entry. It is constructed of dressed limestone and features a tiled roof with fishscale tiles, brick stacks, and coped verges. The structure is two stories high and has seven windows.
To the left of the center, there is a large entry with rounded corners leading to a square opening. The left side, known as Baker's Arch, has a 12-pane flush sash window and a blocked doorway with a 2-light steel casement. On the right, Nos 11 and 12, which are now combined into one house, feature a 3-light casement window, a half-glazed door, a 4-pane sash window, and a door with two fielded panels and a flat wooden hood, which has been inserted into what was once a mullioned window.
On the first floor, there are three 2-light mullioned casements with hollow-chamfered surrounds and flat mullions on the left, and four 2-light casements on the right with similar surrounds but missing mullions. The roof includes two hipped dormers with 2-light casements. The rear of Baker's Arch has a two-story gabled wing with a half-hipped roof, and the entrance is now located in this wing. No 12 has a single-storey lean-to extension, while No 11 features a 20th-century two-storey extension. The first floor above the rear entry is tile-hung.
Inside Nos 11 and 12, there are two open fireplaces with ovolo-moulded stone surrounds, doors with two and four fielded panels, and chamfered beams.
