Description
The former Wesleyan Methodist Church, built in 1818, is accessed from Coppice Hill via a gravel path that leads through wrought-iron gates with an arched lamp-bracket. The church is constructed of ashlar and features five windows on two levels, with sash windows that have gables and semi-circular heads. The central sections of the building project slightly forward. There is a plain string course at the first floor and a moulded cornice. The central portion rises to create an attic feature, which includes three raised rectangular panels but no windows, topped with a heavy cornice and pediment. The side units have plain parapets that support two large stone console brackets, one on each side, adjacent to the attic stage's side walls. The square-headed central doorway has a shallow fanlight and panelled double doors, framed by a stone surround with half-columns, an architrave, a frieze adorned with triglyphs and guttae, a dentilled cornice, and a shallow triangular-headed blocking course. There is a small paved forecourt with steps leading up from the gravel path. The church is now in a ruined state. The building is part of a group that includes Nos 9 to 12 (consecutive), Nos 14 to 16 (consecutive), Nos 19 to 23 (consecutive), the former Wesleyan Methodist Church, and the surrounding wall and gates.
