Description
Watlington Methodist Church is a Wesleyan chapel dating from 1812, as indicated by the datestone in the tympanum. The building features a front constructed of Flemish bond brick with flared headers and a gabled roof covered in Welsh slate. The facade has a pediment and consists of two storeys with three windows. A 20th-century porch is gabled. There are gauged brick round arches above a panelled double-leaf door, which is adorned with a Gothick fanlight and 20th-century casements. A stone string course and a moulded cornice run along the top, and wrought-iron antefixae sit atop the pediment. Each side wall has round arches over similar sash windows.
Inside, the church contains an early 19th-century wall tablet, pews, and a pulpit. There are winder stairs with stick balusters and a wreathed handrail leading to a balcony supported by cast-iron columns. The balcony features early 19th-century benches and a late 19th-century organ. A blind triple arcade of pointed chamfered arches includes late 19th-century four-panelled doors that lead to the rear hall.
