Description
The Fowle monument and railings are located in the churchyard approximately 18 meters northeast of the chancel of the Church of St Mary in Market Lavington. This mid-19th century pedestal monument is made of limestone and is enclosed in railings. It features a pedestal on a plinth, with a dentilled cornice and a domed top that is intricately carved with leaves, topped by a bell finial. The monument commemorates Elizabeth Legge, who died in 1849, Thomas and Bridget Fowle, who both died in 1839, Elizabeth Fowle, who died in 1881, and Thomas Fowle, who died in 1851. Notably, an amputated leg was buried 20 years earlier to await the Resurrection.
