Description
The garden wall, gate piers, and pavings at the entrance to The Old House date from the 19th century. The front garden wall is constructed of brick on greensand footings, topped with stone copings. There is a central entrance featuring three plus one rounded steps leading up from an external raised cobble pavement. The central brick piers, approximately 45 centimeters wide, have stone bases and moulded cornice blocks, although the terminals are missing. The inner stops have scrolled stone tops, with a scroll extending to the rear of the pier onto the wall. The northern section, approximately 9 meters long, has been rebuilt and includes the gable of an outbuilding. A pineapple finial, likely from the gate piers, is mounted on a wall about 10 meters to the north.
