Description

Fives Court, located on Parsonage Lane in Market Lavington, began as an outbuilding to the Old Parsonage, which was demolished in 1862. It was extended into a racquet court in the 1850s and subsequently converted into a house. The building demonstrates two distinct phases of construction, the early 18th century and around 1860.

The southern-facing main elevation is single-storied, having been raised to two stories around 1860, utilising reclaimed materials. It features three bays, with a central entrance concealed within a 20th-century brick-built lean-to porch containing a boarded door. The ground floor has stone cross windows with gauged brick lintels. Above, a raised upper floor is punctuated with moulded two-light stone windows, and the roof extends as a lean-to onto the racquets court.

Attached to the rear is the racquets court, constructed of red brick, and now partly converted for residential use. The court itself is of four brick panels and two stories high, with 18 and 12-pane sashes, the windows replaced around 1945.
