Description
Laundry Cottage and gates is a house built in the mid-19th century. It is constructed from squared rubble stone and features a slate hipped roof with end-wall and ridge stacks. The east front has two storeys and four windows, with sash windows that have 9 panes above and 12 panes below, all set in flush stone surrounds. The building has flush quoins.
At the rear, there is a single-storey laundry range with a slate roof, which has a lean-to against the south wall of the Walled Garden. The roof extends over a broad verandah supported by painted timber posts, featuring 12-pane and 16-pane sashes. At the west end, there is a two-storey return with sash windows and a hipped roof.
Attached to the south wall of the main house is a wall that connects to gatepiers, which support fine mid-19th century iron gates that were relocated from the forecourt of the demolished main part of Bowood House.
