Description

The cascade at the south west end of the lake was built around 1765. It is situated over a dam that separates the upper lake, which is fed by the Washway stream, from the main lake. The structure features two high steps made of tufa, with water flowing from a covered opening above and cascading into a circular tank lined with brick. This feature is likely part of the landscaping work done by Capability Brown between 1763 and 1768.
