Description

GREAT HINTON MAIN STREET ST 95 NW (north side) No 23 (Fore Street Farmhouse) 7/111 GV II

Farmhouse. Mid C17, extended late C17. Pebbledashed timber-frame, Bridgwater tiled roof with brick stack. Single-storey and attic, 2-window. Planked door to right of centre, 9-pane fixed window to right, 3-light casement to left of door and 2-light casement to left; added bay. Two C19 gabled attic dormers with 2-light casements. Left return has 2-light attic casement. Blind right return. Single-storey rear wing with planked door, 3-light casement and pantiled roof. Interior not accessible at time of survey (December 1986), but said to contain chamfered beams, planked doors. An early C20 post card in the village showed this cottage without the pebbledashing; square-panelled timber-frame with straight bracing, stack formerly gable end, 2-bays; the left hand bay probably added late C17 in lighter timber-framing.
