Description

Fore Street Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century, with an extension added in the late 17th century. It features a pebbledashed timber-frame and a Bridgwater tiled roof with a brick stack. The building is single-storey with an attic and has two windows. There is a planked door located to the right of center, a 9-pane fixed window to the right, a 3-light casement window to the left of the door, and a 2-light casement window to the left, which is part of an added bay. The left side of the building has two 19th-century gabled attic dormers, each with 2-light casements, and the left return has a 2-light attic casement. The right return is blind. At the rear, there is a single-storey wing that has a planked door, a 3-light casement window, and a pantiled roof. The interior was not accessible during the survey in December 1986, but it is reported to contain chamfered beams and planked doors. An early 20th-century postcard from the village shows the farmhouse without the pebbledashing, revealing a square-panelled timber-frame with straight bracing, a stack that was formerly at the gable end, and two bays, with the left bay likely added in the late 17th century using lighter timber-framing.
