Description

The Linnet is an inn with a former brewhouse, dating from the mid-18th century, with the brewhouse dated 1816 and mid-19th century alterations. The building is constructed of English garden wall bond brick and features an asbestos slate roof with brick stacks. It is two stories high and has a four-window main range. The central entrance has a planked door with a flat stone hood supported by brackets and a beaded architrave. To the right of the entrance is another door with a stone hood, and to the left, there is a 16-pane sash window and a 12-pane fixed window. A 16-pane sash window is located to the left of a straight joint.

On the first floor, there are three 2-light cyma-mullioned casements, with an additional 2-light casement in a left-hand added bay. The eaves were raised in the 19th century. The right return of the building was rebuilt in the mid-19th century using Flemish bond brick and features 16-pane sashes and segmental-headed sashes on both the ground and first floors, along with pierced decorative barge boards on the gable end.

The former brewhouse, attached to the left of the front, has a central planked door and segmental-headed 2-light mullioned windows on either side, with three similar windows on the first floor, all featuring small-paned cast-iron windows. The right gable end of the brewhouse displays an 1816 datestone, and the rear has similar 2-light segmental-headed mullioned windows. The interior of the inn has been altered but retains chamfered beams.
