Description
Nursteed Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 17th century or earlier. It features a rendered exterior over a timber frame and has a Bridgwater tile roof that was installed in 1912, replacing the original thatch. The building has ridge and east end stacks. The long two-storey front includes small-paned casement windows, with a two-window range to the left consisting of a three-light and a four-light window above the door, and a three-window range to the right featuring two three-light windows and one two-light window above three-light windows on each side of a timber gabled porch. There is a rear stack located behind the right side of the house. The rear of the farmhouse has an early 18th-century projecting extension made of chequered brick with a hipped roof and a two-window range of casements. An additional projection was added to the east end wall around 1920 for a water tank. Inside, the ground floor has heavy chamfered centre and spine beams throughout, a large chimney-breast in the centre, and several early 18th-century fielded panelled doors. Historically, the house was recorded as a mill in 1660, and it is presumed that the mill mentioned in 1424 was located on this site.
