Description

This house, located on Salisbury Street, was built in the late 19th century and is part of a row of buildings. It features coursed and squared limestone with ashlar dressings and flush quoins, topped with a plain tile roof. The building has two storeys and an attic.

On the ground floor, there are two 12-pane sash windows, each with a door to the left: one door is a flush 4-panel style with a margin bar transom light above, while the other is a 4-panel fielded door with a similar transom light. The first floor has two canted oriel windows with lead cappings, resting on a stone base supported by two carved brackets. These oriels are flanked by a central 12-pane sash window. Above the oriels, there are two 2-light hipped dormers, one of which features decorative tile cresting. The building also has a moulded eaves cornice and a large brick chimney stack on the right side.

The left return of the house is slate hung above the adjacent roof, while the right return is rendered. An earlier building was removed from this site and replaced by a 20th-century garage, which is not of special interest. Despite its relatively late construction, this house contributes significantly to the urban design of the area, providing an important visual stop along the street.
