Description
The barn at Pilgrim's Croft is a 17th-century structure located on the west side of West Dean Tytherley Road. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, resting on brick sills, with a tiled roof. The barn features five bays, a central midstrey, an aisle on the west side, and lean-to offices added to the east side, flanking a porch. The aisle includes a 1.8-meter brick outer wall. The roof extends over a one-bay stable at the south end, which has a loft above with a gable loading door. The roof is hipped. Inside, there are tie beam trusses with collars and two tiers of butt purlins. To the north of the midstrey, there are single purlins, suggesting a possible partial rebuild. The structure includes reverse curved braces to the posts and plates, with two posts made from malformed timber. Much of the timber used in the barn is reused. The barn has group value with the farmhouse, outbuildings, and cottage listed in Hampshire, Test Valley district, parish of West Tytherley.
