Description
The north-west barn at Bury Farm is a mid-17th century structure. It features a timber frame set on a brick sill and is covered with dark weatherboarding and a steeply pitched roof that has been slated. This tall, wide-span barn consists of three bays and faces east, with a gabled porch located at the middle bay. The barn has jowled posts and a mid-height rail that is jointed in-line. Curved tension-braces support the middle bay and the end walls, with a central post at each gable. Long straight braces connect to the tie-beams. The roof is a clasped-purlin design, featuring two purlins on each slope; the upper purlins are supported by a high collar, while the lower ones are held up by straight inclined queen posts. There is a winnowing door at the rear and louvred openings at the eaves of the end bays. The wallplate displays face-halved bladed scarf joints. This barn is included for its group value.
